This publication aims to broaden our musical horizons. We frame it with the question of our understanding of the reception of musical events. Either/or notions of musical perception as purely mental or purely physical do not seem to us to adequately capture the practice of musical experience. We believe that experiencing musical events always involves a complex interplay of intellectual reflection, physical impressions, and physical/emotional reaction. None of these aspects is considered superior to the others.
